Our Passion is Distance Walking. In doing so, we have discovered wonderful communities,
met amazing people and created a better life-balance for ourselves.

Summer 2023 Adventure #2
The Trans Canada Trail
Our plan for the Manitoba and Saskatchewan sections of the TCT was to make it a road trip. In the Prairies, the TCT utilizes more ‘connector roads’ than in the other Provinces. These long road sections are difficult to enjoy in addition it is tough to find wilderness camping sites, and access to daily drinking water. Our approach this summer would help us minimize road walking and maximize access to natural trails in the Prairies, which even included areas where the TCT isn’t present.
Starting in Whiteshell P.P. the trail is typical ‘Canadian Shield’ landscape. After a few small communities we crossed the town of Pinawa, then headed west to Grand Beach, south to Winnipeg, toward the US border before heading northwest thru Spruce Woods P.P. and Riding Mountain N.P. before heading east to the Saskatchewan Border. |
In Saskatchewan, the TCT heads southwest to Yorkton, Melville, Fort Qu’Appelle, Regina before heading back north to Saskatoon. We added Buffalo Pond P.P., and Saskatchewan Landing P.P. before heading back east.
We touched the Medicine Hat River trail, as well as Cypress Hills P.P. two orphaned offshoot trails. We also stopped in Grassland N.P. and scoped out a few ghost towns along the Red Coat Trail.
By taking our time traveling through the prairies, we experienced the amazing variety of landscapes, the rich heritage of the French, Russian, and Ukrainian settlers whose descendants call this area home. We truly felt the ‘Land of the Living Sky’.
We continue our partnership with the TCT organization as a TCT Trail Pathfinder.
