We are passionate about trekking and specifically thru-hiking, which is the act of hiking an established trail end-to-end continuously. The length of a thru-hike is largely undefined. Trails associated with thru-hiking take several weeks or months to complete. It most often involves backpacking and camping, though not always.
For us, this is how it all begins. We always chat about our next adventures, and we research all the time, books, maps, blogs, videos, and other web resources. We are members of trail clubs, hiking clubs, and trail associations. We often examine chats lines and hiking videos for additional inspiration. |
Our planning process has evolved through the years. It involves combing through a series of factors to help build a fairly detailed and reliable plan. The method isn’t linear but consists of the following processes:
The planning processes:

The preparation processes:

As we dive into our approach, Trail Choice will also briefly outline the various styles of treks. An important consideration will be to determine which of these styles best suits a set of abilities and goals. We often spend weeks and sometimes years selecting possible challenging treks for our next adventures. It is a fun and certainly integral part of the process.
In Trail Knowledge, we work on the itinerary which will detail water source, cache locations, terrain difficulty, and resupply communities. In the final preparation process we look at Removing Obstacles, often a bigger task than expected. The appropriate Equipment is then selected, a Nutrition plan is designed to suit the trek, and lastly a Health & Fitness Training approach is developed or the current tweaked. An in-depth plan gives us the best chance to successfully accomplish each of our adventures.
