The Rideau Trail is roughly 387 kilometers of hiking trails between Ottawa and Kingston. It is made up of one third paved roads and two thirds gravel roads, rail trails, and nature trails. The terrain is generally flat, but on the natural trail sections, the terrain is rolling and can be challenging.
There are some sections that cross private land and some closures need to be expected. Please check the RTA website (rideautrail.org) for up-to-date trail alerts.

Access to water can be a challenge, as can finding camping spots.
In the area the summers are long, warm, and partly cloudy and the winters are freezing, snowy, and mostly cloudy. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from -15 °C to 27 °C and is rarely below -25 °C or above 31 °C.

Because of the humidity, it can be quite buggy in the spring and summer. The best times for extended walks are in September and October as the days can be warm, and the fall colours are spectacular.
